Won the Pacific Coast Conference high jump title in 1948 with a leap of 6-4...held the Cal school record for the high jump at 6-7.25, a record that stood for 14 years (a remarkable leap, considering he used a scissors style of jumping)...also tied for third place at the NCAA Championship that year, helping Cal to a fifth place team finish...led Cal basketball team in scoring in 1947 with a 10.1 ppg average and again in '48 with a 14.5 average...once ranked as high as 15th and is still on the Cal career scoring average list with a 12.0 ppg mark...earned Southern Division PCC honors in 1948 and was named the team's Co-Most Inspirational Player that season...delivered the commencement address at the time of his graduation to 8,000 assembled graduates in Memorial Stadium...went on to a distinguished career in the legal profession and served in 1990-91 as the president of the American Trial Lawyers Association.
