Cal Baseball Defeats Sacramento State, 15-8

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State baseball team (14-38, 6-21) fell 15-8 to the Cal Golden Bears at Hornet Field on Tuesday. The Bears' victory was secured with an eight-run eighth inning, led off by a Jason Hill home run to right field. Hill later repeated the effort with a three-run homer to claim two of the three Cal round-trippers in the game.

Trailing 3-0 through three innings, Cal's Aaron Gordnier led off the top of the fourth with a home run for the first Cal run of the day. The Bears took the 4-3 lead in that inning, followed by a three-run Sac State fourth inning. The Hornets led 8-7 heading into the fateful eighth.

Eddie Taylor went 2-for-5 in the outing, driving in right fielder Jason Bolton from third in the bottom of the second inning for the first Sac State run of the day. The center fielder scored in the same inning on a Pete Gascon double to left field.

With the loss, Sac State falls to 14-38 on the season. Pitcher Rich Henson collected the loss to fall to 1-5. Cal improves to 19-31. Tyler Walker evened his record to 4-4.

The Hornets close out the season this weekend when they host Big West foe New Mexico State. Games are slated to begin Friday at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Cal will head to Clemson, S.C., where the team will face Clemson in a three-game series over the weekend.
