Prior to coaching for one season at Stanford last year as an assistant, McCurdy was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams during her playing career at Iowa where she graduated in 2009. She helped the Hawkeyes reach the national semifinals in her senior campaign in addition to two other NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and 07. In that final four senior season, McCurdy established career-high totals in goals (15), assists (6) and points (36).

McCurdy was a two-time Second Team NFHCA West Regional All-American and two-time Second Team All-Big Ten selection. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2005.

She also competed on the 2006-08 U.S. Under-21 team and 2007 HPTC Midwest Region squad.
