Women's Tennis Defeats Santa Clara, 8-1
Bears improve dual match record to 2-0.

BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of California women's tennis team improved its dual match record to 2-0 Tuesday afternoon with an easy 8-1 victory over Santa Clara at the Hellman Tennis Center on the Cal campus.
The Bears controlled the match from the outset as Amanda Augustus cruised to her sixth straight win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Santa Clara's Lindsay Colker at No. 1 singles. Cal put the finishing touches on the match early as Stephanie Tibbits, Francesca La'O, Jenny Lee and Amy Jensen all posted wins in the Nos. 2-5 positions, respectively, to clinch the match.
Santa Clara's Christy Yamamoto provided the lone highlight for the Broncos (3-1) with a hard fought three-set victory over Cal's Katherine Rivett, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1.
The Bears also swept through doubles play, winning all three matches, to provide the final margin of victory, 8-1.
The Cal women's tennis team returns to action this weekend when the Bears travel to the Northwest for three road dual matches. Cal will face Washington, Thursday, Jan. 29 and Washington State, Friday, Jan. 30 in Seattle, before heading south to take on Oregon, Sunday, Feb. 1, in Eugene. All matches are slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
