The Golden Bear women's basketball team arrived in Pittsburgh for the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The eighth-seeded Bears play on Sunday at 9 a.m. (Pacific) against No. 9 seed Notre Dame. California players have been taking time to sit down with CalBears.com and share their thoughts and experiences on the road. Senior Keanna Levy gave her recap of the team's Friday activities along with her thoughts on the trip.
We're having a good time on our NCAA Tournament trip so far. It's a great feeling to be here and a great way to end my senior year. It's always exciting to be at the NCAAs, but this year is a little bit more special for me because it is my last year. I want to bring a lot of energy to the team and leave everything on the floor.
We woke up very early today to practice; it was 5 a.m. our time [Pacific]. After we had breakfast at the hotel, we went to practice for a couple of hours; practice went really well. It was very intense; our practices are always intense, but today we seemed to have something extra. We definitely don't have to look for motivation, just being here at the NCAA Tournament is motivation in itself. It is a good time just being with my teammates and preparing to be our best on Sunday.
After practice, we came back to the hotel, had lunch, and did our usual study hall. We've had some free time today; I watched a little bit of tv, but with the time change, I was just trying to get caught up. I am still trying to get adjusted, but I feel a lot better right now.
It's fun to go on trips, get out of the house, do some traveling and see new places. It's a good experience because it's always fun to be with your teammates outside of basketball. Tonight we went out to dinner and things like that and even just being together in the hotel, it creates an atmosphere which makes us closer and that translates onto the court and helps with team chemistry and the way we interact with each other. We're having the chance to a do a lot of team bonding this trip.
Everything we're doing on this trip though is to get ready for Sunday. I am going to give my all, whether it's on the defensive end, the offensive end, whatever it may be; I just want to play my best and leave it all out there on the floor. Hopefully in the future I'll have other opportunities to play basketball, but this could be my last game at Cal, so I don't want to have any regrets.
I think we're ready to go. Like I said, we had a lot of intensity at practice today; coach always talks about how the way we practice leads to how we play in games and the last few days, we have been practicing really well. I think it's going to pay off on Sunday.
