Berkeley, CA - All four Cal players who were drafted this past spring, in addition to free agent linebacker Keith Miller, made the opening day rosters of their respective NFL teams, according to NFL records released on Monday.
In all, Cal has 26 former players on NFL rosters. The rookies who showed well during the pre-season included first round pick Deltha O'Neal with the Denver Broncos, sixth round selection John Romero with the Philadelphia Eagles, and seventh round picks Sekou Sanyika with the Arizona Cardinals and Jeremiah Parker with the New York Giants. O'Neal is listed as the Broncos first team punt returner and kickoff returner.
Among the players who surivived until the final cuts were Mawuko Tugbenyoh (Tampa Bay Bucs), Joshua White (San Francisco 49ers), Jerry DeLoach (Washington Redskins) and Pete Destefano (New Orleans Saints). Several of those players could have an opportunity to be added to their respective teams practice squads or be picked up by other teams.
In addition, linebacker Matt Beck remains under contract with the St. Louis Rams, but is sitting out the coming season after knee surgery during the summer. He will attempt a comeback next season with the Rams.
