Berkeley - The Cal coaching staff announced a couple of minor changes in the starting line-up against Utah this afternoon.

Senior Harold Pearson is drawing the nod to start at a cornerback position over sophomore LaShaun Ward. Pearson has enjoyed a superb pre-season and the coaches feel he'll provide more consistency at this stage than the talented, but inexperienced Ward. However, both should get plenty of playing time in the opener.

The Bears will also start Matt Nixon at inside linebacker over Chris Ball. At 6-1 and 215 pounds, Nixon is obviously undersized. However, defensive coordinator Lyle Setencich loves his intelligent approach to the game and attention to detail. Ball will also get a significant amount of playing time.

The coaches also said that junior H-Back Keala Keanaaina has been moved to tight end and they expect him to get a significant amount of playing time at that position this afternoon. He missed the last week of the Turlock training camp with a sore shoulder, but has practiced extremely well this past week and the coaches want to get him on the field as he has very good athletic abilities.
