SAN JOSE, Calif. - >

California Head Coach Joanne Boyle
"We're just excited to get one and advance. I think tournament play is what that's all about. No team is going to come here and just lay down. We had a big lead in the beginning, but they can put up some easy transition buckets, and they did. It was a battle, and we're just happy to come out on top."

On consistent play
"We'll get great stops and then transition and then we don't convert. We were just talking about conversion and converting. We had three chances and three fast-break layups to do something, and we got an offensive foul and turned the ball over a few times. We just have to be a little headier down the stretch. I think we're excited, and here we go. We're just not finishing and taking care of business when we have opportunities to. It's one and done at this point."

On facing Arizona State
"It's going to be a great match-up. We've gotten them twice earlier in the season, but they're playing some great basketball right now. They're very focused. They played a great game against Washington. They had a really good weekend down at the L.A.'s. They're coming in with a really good rhythm right now. It's always a battle between us two. It will continue to be a battle. I expect it to be a battle tomorrow."

Cal guard Alexis Gray-Lawson

On her performance at the free throw line
"I think for the first half I was really struggling a lot. I know that I have the best coaches and best teammates in the world that just told me to calm down and just go up to the line and make free throws, and that's what I did."

Cal guard Natasha Vital
On almost having a triple double
"I didn't even know my stats, so I was just going out there and playing hard. Lucky for my teammates, when they were open, they were knocking down shots, so I was just playing hard, playing defense, and trying to stop their players from shooting when they came back on their end. I was trying limit (Taylor) Lilley and the rest of their shooters on their team."

Cal forward Ashley Walker

On Cal's defense
"we always talk about our defense, which is what we pride ourselves on. We came out hot, not necessarily on offense but on defense, which makes it easier for our whole offense. In the first half of course, you want to put your team in the lead as much as you possibly can, but if your going to come back, and they did, we just have to be the better team and stick to what we do best, and that was our defense."
