SAN DIEGO - Day one of the California football team's Pacific Life Holiday experience featured a friendly welcome by the "Red Coats" and a 75-minute practice on the campus of San Diego State University, as well as a chance for the players and staff to get settled into the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The team had its first on-site meeting at 3 p.m. and then bussed to San Diego State for a 15-period practice. Following the practice, the team had a weight-training session for approximately an hour. Upon their return to the hotel, the Holiday Bowl committee, friends, family and fans greeted the team with a raucous celebration in the lobby of the hotel.
After a barbecue dinner at the hotel, the players and staff settled in to prepare for Sunday's activities, which are scheduled to include practice and a trip to Sea World.
California, which set a school record for average home attendance this year, will battle Texas A&M in the bowl game on Thursday evening at 5 p.m., at Qualcomm Stadium. The Golden Bears have posted a 9-3 record thus far this season. It is just the 15th time that the Bears have won nine or more games in program history. This marks the first time in school history that Cal has advanced to bowl games in four consecutive years.
A limited number of tickets are still available through the Cal Ticket Office, which will open in the lobby of the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m.
