BERKELEY - California opens its Pac-12 Conference schedule when it hosts San Diego State at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, and No. 6/9 UCLA at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears' match against the Bruins will air on the Pac-12 Networks and will wrap up Cal's seven-game home stand.

Both games are double headers with the Cal women's team, which hosts Oregon at 2 p.m. on Friday and Oregon State at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Cal men have a 13-16-4 record in the all-time series with the Aztecs and an 11-38-5 record in the all-time series with UCLA. Last year, the Bears lost 2-1 at SDSU on Oct. 2 and tied the Aztecs 1-1 in double overtime on Nov. 6 at Edwards Stadium. Cal fell in both 2011 games against the Bruins - 1-0 in overtime in Los Angeles on Sept. 30 and 2-0 at home on Nov. 4.

Cal on TV
The UCLA match will mark Cal's third appearance on the Pac-12 Networks this season. Sunday's commentators are Allen Hopkins (play-by-play) and Brian Dunseth (analyst). The remaining Cal games that will air on conference television are the following: Oct. 4 at Stanford, Oc. 12 at Washington, Oct. 19 vs. Washington, Nov. 4 at UCLA and Nov. 9 vs. Stanford.

Bears vs. Ranked Opponents
Cal plays three games against teams ranked in the current NSCAA poll, as the Bears played No. 1 Maryland (6-0 loss on Sept. 2) and will play No. 9 UCLA (Sept. 30 and Nov. 4). Both opponents are also included in the Soccer America magazine poll, with Maryland ranked No. 1 and the Bruins ranked No. 6.

Bonomo Honored Twice for Heroics Against Duquesne, LMU
College Soccer News and Muscle Milk honored Stefano Bonomo after the Golden Bear scored three goals - including both gamewinners - in Cal's 4-1 rout of Duquesne on Sept. 21 and its Sept. 23 win over Loyola Marymount, 1-0. The sophomore forward earned a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week and earned the California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week laurel on Sept. 24.

Bonomo scored twice in Cal's 4-1 rout of Duquesne on Sept. 21 at Edwards Stadium. He scored an eighth-minute goal in the Bears' 1-0 win over Loyola Marymount on Sept. 23 on Goldman Field.

This is the second time that has been Cal honored by CSN and Muscle Milk this season, as senior midfielder Tony Salciccia earned CSN Team of the Week recognition for the week ending Sept. 9 and collected the Muscle Milk award after he scored the winner in the 2-1 season opener against Santa Clara on Aug. 24.

Scouting Cal
• The Bears are unbeaten at home this year, producing a 4-0-1 record during the first five games of the seven-game home stand
• Cal scored 14 goals - 2.8 goals per game - over the last five games
• Sophomore Kevin Peach - who has started all eight games and played most of the minutes in goal - has allowed just two goals during Cal's home stand to reduce his goals-against average to 1.16
Stefano Bonomo is tied for the team high in goals (4) and in game-winning goals (2) with senior midfielder Tony Salciccia and is tied for second on the team in points (8) with sophomore midfielder Seth Casiple
• Salciccia, who converted a penalty kick vs. Duquesne and assisted on one of Bonomo's goals against the Dukes, leads Cal in points (10)
• Casiple leads Cal in assists (6), which matches his team-high total from 2011
• Salciccia, senior defender Ted Jones and senior defender Steve Birnbaum are Cal's co-captains
• Now in his 13th season as Cal's head coach, Kevin Grimes has compiled a 136-82-31 all-time record as the Bears' boss

Scouting SDSU
• The Aztecs have won three straight - 3-2 against Nebraska-Omaha on Sept. 14, 9-0 vs. North Florida on Sept. 16 and 3-1 over UNLV on Sept. 21 - heading into Friday's match at Cal
• Junior forward Jordan Ongaro paces the Aztecs in goals (6) and points (13)
• Junior midfielder Blake Wise and senior midfielder Jose Altamirano are tied for the team high in assists (4)
• Junior Blake Hylen, who has played the most minutes in goal for SDSU, has compiled a 1.59 GAA in five games
• Wise scored the winner against UNLV, while Hylen made nine saves against the Rebels
• Lev Kirshner is in his 13th year as head coach of the Aztecs

Scouting UCLA
• UCLA is ranked No. 6 by Soccer America and No. 9 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
• The Bruins - who are unbeaten in their last six games - play at Stanford on Friday before taking on Cal on Sunday
• Senior midfielder/forward Fernando Monge leads UCLA in goals (3) and points (7)
• Monge scored the winner in UCLA's last game - 1-0 over Cal Poly on Sept. 23 - and a goal in an eventual 1-1 double-overtime tie with UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 21
• Senior forward/midfielder Evan Raynr, sophomore midfielder Leo Stolz and junior midfielder Victor Munoz are tied for UCLA's lead in assists (3)
• Sophomore goalie Earl Edwards has put together a 0.72 GAA in four games including the last three starts; he made four saves to blank Cal Poly
• Jorge Salcedo is in his ninth year as head coach of his alma mater

Salciccia Earns CSN Team of the Week Berth
Tony Salciccia scored a goal and collected an assist in Cal's 4-1 win over Central Florida on Sept. 7 to garner College Soccer News Team of the Week recognition. The co-captain scored in the 31st minute to give Cal a 1-0 lead over the Knights. In the 83rd minute, Salciccia slipped a through ball to set up Kyle Marsh for the junior defender's first goal of the season and cap the scoring at 4-1.

Muscle Milk Honors Salciccia After Season Opener
Tony Salciccia scored the game-winning goal and led California men's soccer to victory in its season opener against Santa Clara on Aug. 24, garnering the senior midfielder the second California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the year.

Grimes Rises to Second on Cal Wins List
Head coach Kevin Grimes moved into second place on the all-time Cal wins list with his 132nd career win against Santa Clara. He moved ahead of Julius Schroeder (131) and behind all-time leader Bob DiGrazia (202). A five-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Grimes averaged 10.9 wins per year in his first 12 seasons in Berkeley.

Birnbaum Garners College Soccer News Honor
College Soccer News named senior defender Steve Birnbaum to its preseason All-America team, the publication announced on Aug. 20. The All-Pac-12 First-Team honoree started 36 games for Cal over the last two seasons and is one of three co-captains for the Bears.

A Golden Olympics for the Golden Bears
A total of 46 Golden Bear athletes, coaches and staff members represented Cal during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and together, they brought home a school-record-tying 17 medals (11 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze). The Bears have won 50 medals over the past three Olympics (16 in 2004, 17 in 2008, 17 in 2012), and they have captured 178 medals all-time (99 gold).

Cal No. 1 Public University in the Country
The University of California is the No. 1-ranked public university in the United States, according to U.S. News and World Report. The faculty has won 22 Nobel Prizes, including nine current members, while 28 alumni have received a Nobel Prize. A National Research Council analysis of U.S. universities concluded that the campus has the largest number of highly ranked graduate programs in the country (48 of 52). Cal also has a long commitment to public service, with more than 4,000 students annually doing volunteer work and more than 3,000 Peace Corps participants all-time.
