FLORENCE, Italy - Each day during the men's basketball team's trip to Italy, different members of the squad will offer their impressions of their visit. The Bears arrived in Florence Saturday afternoon, and Steve Panawek and Alex Pribble provided their view of their first day abroad.
Ciao from Firenze!
Well, day one is in the books. We took an unbelievable 11-hour flight into Frankfurt, Germany. Whew, was that long! We spent most of the time on the trip playing cards, watching movies and standing in the back of the plane. After a one-hour layover in Germany, we got on a much smaller jet to make our way to Italy. Getting off the plane was GREAT, but only to enter a humid and extremely hot Florence! Our day of travel is long behind us as all thoughts are focused on pizza, pasta, gelato and of course, our upcoming games.
Our first day was left to explore the Italian plazas filled with unbelievable sculptures and historical monuments. My (Steve) first purchase was a soccer jersey, then at night we indulged in an authentic Italian meal at Za Za's Trattoria. The family style atmosphere and the steak florentine have already made the trip something to remember.
