SOMIS, Calif. - No. 4 California is tied for third with No. 11 Arizona at 615 after the second round of the Pac-10 Championships Tuesday at Saticoy Country Club. The Golden Bears fired a plus-15 in the second round, positioning them only one shot behind second-place USC (614) with one round to go.
No. 2 UCLA holds a nine-shot lead at plus-29 605 over the No. 9 Trojans following today's round of 297. The Bruins were powered by Charlotte Mayorkas and Hannah Jun, who share first place at plus-one 145. Jun finished the second round at minus-two 70, while Mayorkas was at minus-one.
Arizona's Erica Blasberg, the first-day leader, is third at 146, while USC's Irene Cho is fourth at 147.
No. 13 Washington is fifth in the team competition at 619, and No. 21 Stanford is sixth at 620. The two teams started the day tied for second. Cal, the defending Pac-10 champion, entered round two tied for fourth.
Sophomore Sofie Andersson, who finished fourth at the SEC Championships as a freshman at Mississippi State last year, leads all Cal golfers in fifth place at 148. Sophomore Sophia Sheridan climbed 11 spots to a tie for 14th at 156, carding a 76 on Tuesday. Senior Anna Temple also had a 76 and is tied for 38th.
Cal senior Claire Dury was plus-seven on the front nine today but was minus-two on the back nine on the strength of a hole-in-one on the par 3, 10th hole and birdies on the par 4, 11th and 12th holes. Dury is in 26th at 159. Her hole-in-one is the second by a Cal player this year, with Sheridan posting the other in the final round of the Longhorn Invitational March 23.
Cal senior Sarah Huarte, a two-time first team All-Pac-10 selection, had an off day, shooting a plus-10 82. Fortunately, the Bears were able to drop her score for their team total. Huarte finds herself tied for 21st at 158.
The final round tees off Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
