Berkeley - Brianne McGowan tossed a one-hit shutout to lead the 19th-ranked Oregon State Beavers to a 10-0 win over the California Golden Bears in Levine-Fricke field on Thursday afternoon.
Cal (32-29, 6-13) returns to action tomorrow when it hosts 20th-ranked Oregon at 1:00 p.m.
The Beavers had nine hits on the afternoon, including a team-high two from Mia Longfellow. McGowan also had a productive day from the plate, as she tallied two RBI, while Stefanie Ewing connected for a three-run home run in the second inning as well for Oregon State.
Cal broke-up McGowan's bid for a perfect game in the bottom of the fourth as Alex Sutton was hit by a pitch to lead-off the inning. Ericka Racklin then followed with an infield single for Cal's first hit of the day. The Bears loaded the bases after Gina Leomiti was issued a walk (with one out), but McGowan settled down and worked her way out of the inning, retiring two straight with to retain the shutout.
