The California Golden Bear football team enjoyed a busy Friday afternoon, which included a pep rally, kickoff luncheon and walk-through practice at AT&T Park, before Saturday's evening tilt with the Miami Hurricanes in the Emerald Bowl.
Cal players were greeted by fans, supporters, cheerleaders, Oski and the Cal Marching Band at 11 a.m. at Yerba Buena Gardens for a pep rally, before heading over to the Westin St. Francis Hotel for the Emerald Bowl Kickoff Luncheon. Prior to the luncheon, head coach Jeff Tedford and Miami coach Randy Shannon held one more press conference, fielding questions by media covering the two teams.
"Preparation has been really good this week," said Tedford. "Tuesday we practiced in pads, Wednesday in shells and Thursday in helmets. Each day we also focused on special teams. But all along there has been great enthusiasm and preparation has been good."
The Kickoff Luncheon was packed with both Cal and Miami players, fans and administration, along with Emerald Bowl committee members and bowl sponsors. Both Cal and Miami had a highlight video package and members from both teams got on stage to say a few words to the audience.
After the luncheon, Cal headed over to AT&T Park to get acquainted with the field and setup of the stadium. The Bears, who are the home team, will occupy the Giants locker room.
The Emerald Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday and can be seen on ESPN.
