BERKELEY - The California women's golf team was one of 21 squads selected to compete in the 2002 NCAA West Regional Monday by the NCAA selection committee. The Golden Bears, which just finished their regular season with an all-time best third-place finish at the Pac-10 Championship, compete May 9-11 at the Stanford Golf Course on Stanford's campus. This marks the Bears third-straight appearance in an NCAA regional.

No. 17 (Golfweek/Sagarin poll) California is joined in the West regional by No. 8 Arizona, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 14 USC, No. 15 Pepperdine, No. 16 Washington, No. 19 UCLA, No. 25 Stanford, No. 29 New Mexico State, No. 39 San Jose State, No. 41 Idaho, No. 44 San Francisco, No. 59 BYU, No. 61 Colorado State, No. 64 UC Irvine, No. 69 Denver, No. 70 Campbell, No. 78 Washington State, No. 93 Oral Roberts and No. 96 Northern Arizona. Erin Kerr of Colorado, Sarah Walter of Portland and Kathy Cho of Oregon will compete as individuals.

LSU hosts the East Regional, while Michigan State serves as host of the Central one. Eight teams and two individuals from non-advancing teams at each of the three regionals qualify for the NCAA Championship to be played May 21-24 at the Washington National Golf Club, in Auburn, Wash. The University of Washington serves as the championship host.

Last season, Cal finished eighth in the NCAA Central Regional to earn its first bid to the NCAA Championship. The Bears finished 19th at nationals.
