VIERA, FLA. - Satin Story on MiLB.com

Josh Satin, a two-time All-American baseball player at Cal, has added another accolade to his long list of achievements as the former Golden Bear infielder was named the MVP (Top Star Award) of the Florida State League All-Star Game played Sunday night (June 13) at Brevard County Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla.

Satin, who in 2008 was Cal's first, first-team All-American in baseball since 1992 when he was named to Baseball America's first-team All-America squad, was selected in the sixth round by the New York Mets and is currently a member of the Single A St. Lucie Mets.

Competing for the South Division squad, Satin hit the game-winning single in the 10th inning in his squad's 5-4 victory over the North in the 49th annual Florida State League midseason classic. He had earlier tied the contest, 4-4, when he had hit a two-run, opposite-field home run in the eighth inning.

Also playing in the Florida State League All-Star Game was former Cal center fielder Brett Jackson (2007-09), a first-round draft of the Chicago Cubs in 2009 and representing the Daytona Cubs, who knocked in an RBI single in the third inning for the North squad.

As a senior for the Bears in 2008, Satin hit the game-winning homer in the 10th inning versus UCLA in his last home at-bat at Evans Diamond and ended the year batting .379 with 11 doubles, a triple, 18 home runs and 52 RBI. He hit safely in the first 22 games of 2008 and established a school-record a 27-game hitting streak from May 20, 2007 through Mar. 29, 2008.

In 2005, Satin was first-team All-Pac-10 and a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American when he batted .348 with 15 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 40 RBI. He joins Xavier Nady (1998-2000) as the only Cal players to have earned both Freshman All-America and All-America honors during their careers.

Satin is currently batting .317 with 15 doubles, five home runs and 32 RBI for St. Lucie, while Jackson is hitting .280 with three home runs and 26 RBI for Daytona. In other Cal baseball news, freshman left-hander Justin Jones, who in 2010 finished 10-6 with two complete games and a 4.22 ERA, was named a Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers. Earlier Jones was named first-team All-Pac-10 and a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
