DALLAS - Day 2 Results
The No. 4 California men's swimming team won four of nine events on the second day of the Dallas Morning News Classic to fend off No. 2 Florida and capture the title at the Perkins Natatorium.
The Bears defeated the Gators, 352-313, in the six-team event. Host Southern Methodist finished third (293), followed by Arizona State (248), Florida State (236) and Texas A&M (232).
The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Milorad Cavic, Duje Draganja, Rolandas Gimbutis and Jernej Godec established a new meet record of 2:55.30 in opening the evening with a Golden Bear victory. The team later swam to victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Their time of 1:19.92 nearly clipped the meet record (1:19.86).
Cal also received victories from Caleb Rowe in the 200 yard breststroke (2:01.67) and Draganja in the 100 yard freestyle (43.70).
The Bears return to action Friday at Arizona. Meet time in Tucson is scheduled 1:00 p.m.
