Three members of the California Golden Bears women's gymnastics team earned invitations to the NCAA West Regional. Senior Bridgette Glass, junior Sophia Hocini and sophomore Avery Gee will all compete on April 4 in Seattle.
Glass will be making her third trip to the Regionals. She will be competing in the bars and was also announced as the first alternate for the beam and will also compete in that event should someone else in the field withdraw. Last season, Glass placed 11th on beam at the Regionals, She also competed on beam in the 2007 Regional.
Hocini is also making her third trip to Regionals, competing in the all-around. Last season, Hocini placed ninth in the all-around at the West Regionals.
Gee is making her first appearance in the NCAA post season. Gee will compete in the floor exercise at the West Regional and has been listed as an alternate for the all-around competition.
The West Regionals are being hosted by the University of Washington. They will take place on April 4 at the Bank of America Arena in Seattle, Washington. Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, April 16-18, hosted by the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
