BERKELEY - The No. 15-ranked Cal baseball team (22-11), winners of 10 of its last 11 games, hosts Pacific (22-12) in a non-conference contest, Tuesday, April 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Evans Diamond. The Golden Bears, who have climbed up the national rankings after winning eight of their last nine Pac-10 games, entertain a Tiger squad who recently won two-of-three games at No. 25-ranked UC Irvine.

Cal is currently in second place in the Pac-10 with an 8-4 mark, just behind No. 1 Arizona State (31-3, 9-3). A potential starter on the mound Tuesday for the Bears will be junior right-hander Kevin Miller, who was a freshman All-American in 2008 and was the March 8 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week after throwing 6.0 innings with four hits, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts in a 6-0 shutout of Arkansas. Miller is currently 2-2 with a 5.84 ERA and a save this season, and has 17 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.
Another potential starter for Cal is freshman left-hander Matt Evanoff (0-1, 11.25 ERA), who has eight strikeouts in 12.0 innings this year (seven appearances, one start).
The Bears are currently third in the Pac-10 with a .324 team batting average. The Bears are also second in the league in doubles (82); and third in slugging percentage (.485), runs (242), hits (382), triples (16), RBI (216) and total bases (571).
Individually, junior All-Pac-10 first baseman/outfielder Mark Canha is ranked in the Top-10 in the conference in nine different offensive categories, including second in RBI (39) and third with a .500 on-base percentage. Canha is batting a team-best .408 (51-for-125) with 11 doubles and five home runs, and is hitting an impressive .458 against conference foes.
Sophomore catcher Chadd Krist continues his fine season as well, batting .365 with 12 doubles, three triples, a team-high six homers and 26 RBI. Freshman designated hitter Tony Renda has also put up some impressive numbers, hitting .368 (.341 in league play) with 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 25 RBI.
On the mound, Cal pitchers have notched seven shutouts this year and feature talented starters Erik Johnson, Justin Jones and Dixon Anderson. Johnson is 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA and has 46 strikeouts in 44.2 innings. The sophomore right-hander started the year without giving up an earned run in his first 19.0 innings.
Freshman left-hander Jones has been equally impressive with a Pac-10-leading 8-2 record and a 2.62 ERA. He has 61 strikeouts (fifth in the conference) in a Pac-10-leading 72.0 innings. Jones has been a part of two shutouts and has thrown two complete games this season.
Sophomore right-hander Anderson is 3-1 with a 3.26 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 49.2 innings. He limited the top-ranked Sun Devils to one earned run in 7.1 innings on March 28.
After hosting Pacific Tuesday, Cal will face Bay Area rival and No. 22-ranked Stanford (18-13, 7-5), April 23-25 in a three-game Pac-10 series at Sunken Diamond. Game time for the series is 5:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Games can be heard on KALX, 90.7 FM.
