FRESNO, Calif. - Kristen Case, Jessica Shu, Jody Scheldt and Nicole Havlicek all advanced to the second day of competition in singles play. Case looked very impressive in her first two matches, defeating Carol Erickson of Cal Poly, 6-2,6-2, and Petra Abraham of Sacramento State, 6-0, 6-0. Scheldt took care of business against Sac State's Marta Gronowics (6-0,6-2). Shu blanked her opponent, Yasmin Kashef of Sac State, 6-0, 6-0, while Havlicek downed Sheila Lewis of Cal Poly.
The No. 1 seed in the tournament, Catherine Lynch, fell in the early going. After winning the first set 6-1, Lynch then lost the subsequent two sets to Ann Rowland of Sac State, 6-3, 6-2. Lynch will be back in doubles action, however, as she teams up with Shu as the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
