The Cal women's tennis team will travel down the interstate to Stanford to compete at the ITA Northwest Regional Championship October 24-27. This event features some of the biggest and brightest stars in intercollegiate tennis today.
Cal will send a full compliment of players to the event highlighted by the doubles team of ITA All-American Champion Raquel Kops-Jones and former National Under 18 Champion Sasha Podkolzina, who is now a freshmen. The two are rated as the No. 2 seed in the tournament despite never competing as a pair before.
Nicole Havlcek and Bulldog Classic Champion Jody Schedt will team up as the No. 7 seed in the tournay and will receive a first-round bye. Jieun Jacobs and Catherine Lynch form a potentially surprising duo and will face Anna Erickson and Roberta Fessenko, after their first-round bye. Rio Del Rosario and Jessica Shu round up the Bear's doubles line-up, as they draw the likes of Meg Shulman and Dunya Stankovic early in the tournament.
In singles competition the Bears look to improve upon their early season results. Lynch and Scheldt are both awarded seeds in the tournament along with first-round byes. The two other Bears that received first-round byes are Havlicek and Podkolzina.
Cal will have three players open up singles competition on Friday morning. Shu will face off against Christine Tilley, Kristen Case will be matched versus Kathrin Winterhalter, and Del Rosario will see action against Catherine Cochrane.
