BERKELEY - With the start of the 2010-11 California men's basketball season just under a month away, CalBears.com will feature video Q&As on all of the new Golden Bears in the weeks leading up to the start of the season.
Richard Solomon was one of the top posts in the West among his class for 2010. He was listed No. 20 among power forwards by Rivals.com. He will provide some needed depth in the front court for the Bears.
He played with current Cal teammate Allen Crabbe last season at Price High School, averaging 16.9 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game and a team-best 3.0 blocks per game as a senior. Solomon also made all-state and the All-CIF first team.
"Richard is a legit 6-10 forward, and he's very explosive," head coach Mike Montgomery said. "He's gotten stronger in the short time he has been here and picked up 15-20 pounds of muscle. He's long and plays above the rim. We just need to bridle his explosiveness and teach him how to be productive with bigger players in and around the rim. He has the ability to play away from the basket and block shots, as well as get a lot of double-rebound games if he focuses on that aspect of the game."
