September 3, 1998

Berkeley - The Cal Football team received some good news early Thursday afternoon with the news that junior defensive end Mawuko Tugbenyoh has regained his academic eligibility.

The 6-1, 235-pound defensive end has missed the entire pre-season to this point, but was in uniform during a shorts-and-shirts workout Thursday afternoon. He could play on Saturday, although the coaches have not made any decisions about his playing status for the Houston game.

Tugbenyoh is a big-play performer who scored two touchdowns on recovered fumbles last season in addition to 25 tackles (9 of those behind the line of scrimmage).

He is expected to play a reserve role behind John McLaughlin and Andre Carter at the defensive end position for the Bears in '98.
