BERKELEY, Calif. - has selected California No. 7 in its preseason top 25 women's basketball poll. This is the highest ranking the Golden Bears have received under third-year head coach Joanne Boyle and is likely the highest ranking in the history of the Cal program.

Tennessee holds the No. 1 spot in the poll, while Pac-10 rival Stanford is ranked just ahead of Cal at No. 6. Arizona State is the other ranked Pac-10 team at No. 12.

Three Bears also were tabbed to's preseason All-America teams. Junior forward/center Devanei Hampton, the 2006-07 Pac-10 Player of the Year, was named to the third team, while junior forward/center Ashley Walker and junior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson garnered honorable mention recognition. Walker joined Hampton as first-team All-Pac-10 recipients last season, and Gray-Lawson, who missed most of last season with an ACL injury, was selected the 2005-06 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.

Additionally, The Sporting News ranked Cal No. 15 in its preseason poll and chose Hampton to its second-team preseason All-America squad.

Cal, which finished last season with a 23-9 record, opens the 2007-08 season at Fresno State on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
