No. 7 California Tied for Sixth at Pac-10 Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. -

The No. 7 California Golden Bear women's golf team was in sixth place after the first round of the Pac-10 Championships at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

Junior Joanne Lee had the low round for the Bears, shooting a one-under 71. Lee got off to a solid start, birding her first hole. Lee had three birdies on the front nine and four total in her round to come in with a 71, tying for eighth place.

Senior Pia Halbig and junior Emily Childs each carded one-over 73's. Halbig had a pair of birdies, both coming on par-5's. Childs had one birdie on the par-4 11th.

USC and Stanford were tied for the team lead, both totaling 282 (-6). Cal shot a 293 (+5). They are three strokes back of Oregon and Arizona, who are tied for fourth at 290 (+2). UCLA's Tiffany Lua had the low individual round, shooting a four-under 68.

Round two will take place on Monday, April 18 with the championship concluding on Tuesday, April 19. Live Scoring will be available through Golfstat.
