Anaz, Iwanaga Share MVP Award

BERKELEY - California junior Nihan Anaz and sophomore Kristin Iwanaga were named 2002-03 Golden Bear co-MVPs at the annual banquet Friday night at the Radisson Hotel in the Berkeley Marina.

Anaz, a 5-9 guard from Istanbul, Turkey, led Cal with 10.1 ppg this past season. The transfer from Weatherford College in Texas also paced the Bears with 36 steals (1.5 spg) and contributed 2.5 rpg and 2.4 apg. Anaz also poured in double-figure points in 11 contests, including an 18-point effort in Cal's Pac-10 Tournament opening round win over Arizona State.

Iwanaga, a 5-6 guard from Santa Clara, Calif., posted a career-high 7.3 ppg and added a team-best 85 assists (2.9 apg), while only committing 47 turnovers. She also was Cal's top shooter from the free throw and three-point lines at .881 (1st Cal history) and .394 (5th Cal history), respectively. Iwanaga boasts the Pac-10's all-time highest career free throw percentage at .871 and stands third all-time in school history for career three-point percentage (.402).

Saul Becker/Coaches Award - Timea Ivanyi
Community Service Award - Amber White

Cal wrapped up the 2002-03 season with a 10-19 record and a 5-13 mark in the Pac-10.
