CALIFORNIA HEAD COACH Diane Ninemire
General comment: "I thought it was an outstanding game for the Bears. Getting down by two runs in the first inning was a little disappointing. I know Kristina (Thorson) was a little disappointed from giving up two early runs. I was really proud of the team's effort after they fell behind to come back and fight like they always have. I was really happy with our effort and look forward to playing tomorrow night against Oklahoma."
On Cal's offensive production against FSU pitcher Jessica van der Linden: "I contribute our success to the fact that we have a very good hitting team. We are very competitive. We have faced a lot of good pitchers in our conference and in the course of our schedule, and I think this team is very prepared to face any pitcher that is out there. I thought even early that we were hitting (Jessica) van der Linden very well and I was confident that it was just a matter of time before we broke through."
FLORIDA STATE HEAD COACH JoANNE GRAF
General comment: "I thought we got in trouble in the first inning and Jess (van der Linden) got us out of it. Then she hit a two-run home run. At that point I thought we had our momentum going pretty good, but in the third they came back and scored three runs. We did not hit well tonight at all. Jess had the only two hits of the game. I told the team a few minutes ago that everybody has to pick it up at the bat. I think we were only behind by two runs, and I was pretty confident we could score two runs. I never really felt we were out of the ballgame. We didn't make it happen at the plate."
On playing Washington on Saturday: "We're going to play a really good team in Washington. We played them earlier this year. I think Washington is going to come out and try to prove the same thing we are. We're a better team than we (showed) tonight and I think Washington is going to try to prove that they're a better team than they (showed) tonight. It'll be a battle and both teams will play hard and give it everything they have."
FLORIDA STATE SENIOR JESSICA van der LINDEN
On her overall performance: "Being able to contribute my first at bat was really good. It wasn't my best pitching performance. I made some mistakes. They took advantage of that, and that's what you've got to do."
On rebounding to play Washington: "It's going to be a little harder now. But we're a team that likes to do things the hard way. Hopefully we can pick it up and go out and play the game like we know how."
FLORIDA STATE SENIOR BETH WADE:
On opposing pitcher Kristina Thorson: "I give her credit. She's a good pitcher. I think she's All-American. She did her job keeping us off balance pretty well. That's her job. We didn't make the adjustment as hitters."
