The California Golden Bear women's golf team gets the 2010-11 season underway on Monday, Sept. 13 when they tee off at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Windsor, Colo. The two-day tournament wraps up on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
The Bears will be competing against Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State (the host school), Fresno State, Idaho, Illinois, Long Beach State, Louisville, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Oregon, San Jose State, Texas El Paso, Texas Tech, and Wyoming.
The last time Cal played at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic was during the 2008-09 season when the Bears won the tournament with a team-record 18-under for the tournament. Cal also set the low single-round score (-15), low 36-holes (-19), and two players, Shannon Yocum and Allison Goodman, tied the low individual round record (-5). The Cal team also won the event in 2007.
Cal will be led this season by senior Pia Halbig, who was just named to the German National Team for the upcoming World Amateur Team Championships in Buenos Aires. Junior Joanne Lee led the team last season in stroke average. Lee recently played in the US Amateur in Charlotte, N.C. Junior Emily Childs, who transferred to Cal from Colorado, is in her second season in the blue and gold. Childs had a strong summer that included back-to-back wins at the Northern California Golf Association Women's Championships and the California Women's Championship. Junior Daniela Holmqvist, who is beginning her first full season with the Bears after a strong spring debut last year, qualified this summer for the match play portion of the British Women's Amateur Championships.
Live Scoring will be available during the tournament through Golfstat.
