A LOOK AT STANFORD
Stanford opened home conference play last weekend with two wins and a loss against Oregon and Oregon State. The Cardinal upset Oregon State on Friday, 3-2, thanks to a seventh-inning RBI single from Erin Howe. Missy Penna pitched the complete game for Stanford, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three.
Stanford beat Oregon 7-3 on Saturday, thanks to dominant pitching and a grand slam from Penna. The Cardinal fell to Oregon in the rubber game of the series, 9-2, Sunday. Penna opened the game for the Cardinal, allowing four runs on five hits in 3.2 innings. Laura Severson came on in relief for Stanford, allowing five runs on 11 hits. Stanford is second in the conference in batting average (.325)
In 2005, Stanford won the first two games against Cal -- 6-4 and 1-2 -- but the Bears pulled out a 1-0 victory in the third meeting. Cal holds a 49-15 all-time record against the Cardinal.
