BERKELEY - Cal senior linebacker Mike Mohamed and junior punter Bryan Anger have been named to NationalChamps.net 2010 Preseason All-American teams announced Monday. Mohamed is a third-team selection, while Anger received honorable mention status. Mohamed was previously named to watch lists for the 2010 Rotary Lombardi Award and the Lott Trophy last month.

Mohamed will be one of Cal's most experienced players this upcoming campaign, having participated in all 39 games over the last three seasons with 16 starts. He is Cal's active leader in career tackles with 245 and has posted other career totals of 15.0 tackles for loss (-58 yards), 5.0 sacks (-37 yards), six interceptions (36 return yards), two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He will long be remembered in Cal football history for his interception at the Golden Bears' own three-yard line that thwarted a potential game-winning Stanford drive and clinched a 34-28 Cal victory in the 2009 Big Game on The Farm. He also returned one of his three interceptions in 2008 for a touchdown during a 41-20 win over UCLA.

Mohamed received first-team All-Pac-10 honors in 2009 for the first time in his career when he led the conference with 112 tackles, while adding 8.0 tackles for loss and a team-high three interceptions. He was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week twice after his performances in victories at Arizona State (12 tackles, 11 solo) and Stanford (10 tackles, 0.5 TFL, game-clinching interception). Mohamed was also selected as Cal's defensive MVP in 2009 by his teammates.

In addition to his performances on the field, Mohamed has been honored on the Pac-10 All-Academic team three times, earning first team recognition in each of the last two years. In 2009, he also earned a spot on the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic District 8 First-Team for the first time in his career.

Cal junior punter Bryan Anger has been named a 2010 honorable mention preseason All-American by NationalChamps.net.

Anger was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection and an honorable mention All-American by College Football Insiders as a sophomore in 2009 when he averaged 41.5 yards per punt, including 14 punts of 50 or more yards and 24 that pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line. As a freshman in 2008, he averaged 43.1 yards per punt, booted 16 punts of at least 50 yards and 26 inside the opponents' 20-yard line to earn second-team All-Pac-10 first-team Freshman All-American honors by Sporting News Today, College Football News and Rivals.com. He has averaged 42.3 yards per punt during his career on 140 punts over 26 contests and has been on the watch list for the Ray Guy Award during both of his collegiate campaigns, including a national semifinalist selection as a collegiate rookie in 2008.

Cal opens its 2010 season vs. UC Davis on Saturday, Sept. 4. The upcoming campaign will be the final year with the current configuration of Memorial Stadium and also includes visits from Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington during a seven-game home schedule.
