Sept. 28, 2003

FRESNO, Calif. - Cal's Jody Scheldt endured a rigorous weekend to secure the 2003 Bulldog Classic Championship Sunday. Scheldt took three sets to defeat Vlatka Jovanovic of Fresno State in the semifinal (6-3,3-6,6-2). In the final, she was able to take care of No. 5 seed Anna Erickson of Sac State in straight sets (6-3,6-3).

It was a trying weekend for Scheldt, as she competed in singles and doubles competition. Her fortunes were not as great in doubles action, however. Paired as the No. 3 seed with Nicole Havlicek, the two were able to make their way to the final, but in the end they fell (8-4) to Fresno State's Lucia Sainz and Kathrin Winterhalter, who were seeded No. 4.
