RANCHO SANTA FE, CALIF. - The Cal men's golf team, paced by junior Michael Wilson's sixth-place finish, tied for fifth at the Callaway Golf Invitational (par 72, 6,911 yards), presented by the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The Golden Bears finished the three rounds with a 36-over 900 (296, 299, 305), trailing San Diego State (880), San Diego (892), San Jose State and Loyola Marymount (899). Cal tied for fifth with Long Beach State.
The Bears were in second place after the first round Monday with a 296. The second round was suspended due to darkness on Monday, and was completed Tuesday morning before the third and final round.
Wilson had a solid showing with a five-over 221 (73, 71, 77). Freshman Romain Payet tied for 19th with a nine-over 225 (73, 78, 74), freshman Larry Wong tied for 22nd with a 10-over 226 (75, 76, 75), freshman George Gandranata tied for 30th with a 12-over 228 (75, 74, 79) and sophomore Michael Jensen tied for 76th with a 248 (79, 82, 87, +32).
Loyola Marymount's Jason D'Amore was the individual champion with a seven-under 209 (66, 72, 71).
