Woods Named a Finalist for Collegiate Player of the Year Award

Berkeley, Calif. - Cal sophomore catcher Haley Woods has been named a Top 25 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award by the Amateur Softball Association. Woods leads the Golden Bears with 11 home runs and 42 RBI this season, while batting .345 (39-113) in 38 games. She has also caught one of the best pitching staff's in the country including 18-game winner Kelly Anderson and 15-game winner Kristina Thorson.

The list of 25 players will be reduced to 10 on April 28 and three finalists will be announced on May 11. The winner of the award will be announced on May 26 at the opening ceremonies of the NCAA College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Woods has already been named USA Softball Player of the Week on Feb. 19 for her performance at the UNLV Tournament. She hit .600 (9-15) over a give game stretch with four home runs and 17 RBI.
