Golden Bears Shine at World University Games

BERKELEY - Current California All-American Emily Silver helped the U.S. women's 4x100-meter freestyle relay team capture a gold medal, while former Cal All-American Erin Reilly aided the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay team to a gold-medal finish in the finals of the World University Games held in Bangkok last weekend.

Silver swam the first leg of the 4x100 event along with Kara Denby, Courtney Cashion and Andrea Hupman with a meet-record time of 3:40.85.

Reilly, along with Kate Dwelley, Lindsay Smith and Kaitlin Sandeno, finished the 4x200 final in a World University Games record-time of 7:57.87 to claim the sixth swimming gold medal for Team USA.

Reilly, who was a member of the Golden Bears from 2004-07, also placed fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.03 and 12th in the 50 butterfly on Monday night with a time of 27.37.

Another former Cal swimmer, Sherry Tsai, who represented her native Hong Kong, placed sixth in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.53.

Cal opens the 2007-08 season with a dual meet against Pacific in Oct. 5 in Berkeley.
