Release:  01/16/2002
Both of California's gymnastics teams will be competing Friday night in a dual meet at the Recreational Sports Facility Field House, in Berkeley. Activities begin at 7:30 p.m.

The men will take on No. 18 UC Santa Barbara, while the women face No. 24 Oregon State.

The meet is the home opener for both squads, although the 13th-ranked women began their season on the road by defeating Cal State Fullerton, 193.925-192.175. The No. 4 men have yet to compete this season.

Friday night will be the Cal debut for several highly acclaimed newcomers to Bear gymnastics. JinJing Zhang, a former Chinese Champion who competed at the 1996 Olympics in Sydney, will don the blue and gold for the first time. Zhang won 39 gold medals during his time with the Chinese national team. On the women's side, My-Lan Dodd, from Seattle, WA, looks to have a strong beginning to her Cal career. She was a member of the Senior National Team in 1999 and 2000, as well as qualifying for the World Trials in '99.

The men were originally set to compete in Haas Pavilion at 7:30 p.m., and the women, also scheduled in Haas, were to begin at 2 p.m.
