WOODLAND, Calif. - California senior goalie Heather Stuart was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 4, it was announced Monday. Stuart had 18 saves and helped the Golden Bears to go undefeated last week, bringing them to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the MPSF.
In Cal's conference opener and 14-3 win over Pacific on Jan. 30, the Moraga, Calif., native had five saves between the posts for the Bears. The highlight of Stuart's week came Feb. 2 when she had 11 saves in the 9-5 victory over the previously undefeated No. 7 San Jose State. The 6-3 senior grabbed two saves in one quarter play in Cal's 21-4 dismantling of Sonoma State on Feb. 3.
Stuart now possesses 30 saves on the young 2008 campaign and 391 career saves as a Golden Bear. She's currently averaging 10.0 saves per game, good for third in the MPSF.
The No. 5 Bears face their first higher ranked opponents on Thursday when they host No. 4 Hawaii in the final game of a three-game homestand. California then travels to the competitive Stanford Invitational where it will face No. 2 USC and No. 11 Arizona State on Saturday and No. 3 Stanford and another squad on Sunday.
