BERKELEY - California suffered its first setback of the season when the Golden Bears lost to Texas, 156-144, on Saturday in their first home dual meet of the season at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Bears, who won eight of the 16 events, evened their record at 1-1, while the Longhorns opened their season at 1-0.

"Definitely a tough loss for us, but like anything else that's hard, hopefully we come out of this with lessons learned," Cal assistant coach Kristen Cunnane said. "This gives us an idea of where to focus our energy and effort in looking at the rest of the season. We're looking forward to getting back to work on Monday."

Cal junior Liv Jensen won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, posting NCAA B consideration times of 22.45 in the 50 and 49.41 in the 100. The defending NCAA champion in the 50 free, Jensen also anchored both winning relays, as Cal claimed the 200-yard medley relay in an NCAA B time of 1:40.16 and took the 400-free relay, in an NCAA B time of 3:20.75.

"It was a great, great meet for Liv," Cunnane said. "She's had a strong start to the season."

Bears senior Hannah Wilson likewise posted an NCAA B time in the 100 free, finishing third in 50.10. She also took second in the 200 free in an NCAA B time of 1:48.84. The Longhorns' Karlee Bispo won the 200 free in an NCAA B time of 1:46.97.
