California Receives Votes in Preseason Poll

The California Golden Bears were among the women's basketball teams earning points in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. The Bears, who are looking to return to the top-25 for the first time since the 2009-10 season, eight spots outside the top-25, at the equivalent of 33rd place in the poll. The Bears also received votes (19) in the Associated Press poll, putting them at the equivalent of 32nd in that poll. Complete Associated Press Poll

Baylor begins the season at the top, but was hardly a unanimous choice. Six different teams received at least two first-place votes. Texas, a team that the Bears will face in Hawaii over Thanksgiving, begins the season ranked No. 20. The Bears begin the 2011-12 regular season facing 17th-ranked Rutgers in New Jersey. Ohio State, a team who will be making the trip to Haas Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 17, is just outside the top-25, starting off with an equivalent ranking of 27.

The Bears will play a free exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Haas Pavilion, taking on the Vanguard Lions at 7 p.m. The first home game of the regular season will be on Thursday, Nov. 17 when they host the Sacramento State Hornets.
