BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior Sarah Huarte was named to the eight-member amateur United States Curtis Cup team on Saturday by the USGA Women's Committee.
The United States will compete against a team from Great Britain and Ireland June 12-13 at the 2004 Curtis Cup Match at the Formby Golf Club in Merseyside, England.
Huarte will be joined by Michelle Wie, Erica Blasberg, Paula Creamer, Jane Park, Annie Thurman, Erica Janangelo, Brittany Lang and Martha Kirouac (captain, age 55).
Huarte, a product of Shingle Springs, Calif., won the 2004 South Atlantic Ladies Amateur in January. She is a two-time All-Pac-10 honoree and a 2003 honorable mention All-American.
The Curtis Cup Match, scheduled every other year, consists of 12 singles and six foursomes (alternate shot) matches. The USA team has won the last three matches, in 1998, 2000 and 2002. The USA also leads the series, begun in 1932, by a 23-6-3 margin.
Former Cal golfer Vikki Laing, who hails from Musselburgh, Scotland, competed for Great Britain and Ireland at the 2002 Curtis Cup in Pennsylvania.
