ORLANDO, Fla. - Head coach Mike Montgomery:

On getting the win:
It was a great win for us. It was kind of an awful game, there were a lot of mistakes both ways. I don't know what prompted that, obviously, I thought both teams played hard, but it wasn't very pretty. We just made a lot of unforced errors early, we were down two at half and you thought, `boy, we could have been up a bunch, lucky to be down just two,' based on number of unforced errors that we made. But obviously, Temple was having the same problems.

On what turned the tide:
We had a stretch in the second half where we really defended well or they were missing shots, whichever way you want to look at it, but we were able to make some baskets. We hadn't made very many threes. Then Gary hit a three, then Jorge hit a three and then next thing you know, we got a steal, which we hadn't been getting and went from seven down to two down. Then the next thing you know, we're up. Once we got settled down a little bit, we got steady performance from the guys we would expect to, from our three veterans and our two freshmen in the second half started to play better.

On how Jorge Gutierrez played defensively:
Temple hadn't played for 11 days so they probably maybe weren't in game shape, but I thought Jorge did a good job on Hernandez. Hernandez is a skilled player, but he didn't make a three and was 2-for-14, I think that was a key for them.

On the early success:
I don't know that anythings happened that's been spectacular or surprising. Like I said we have three veteran kids that are tough kids, Harper's a really good defender, Markhuri was good inside and Jorge's tough. Those three kids kind of set the tone. I do need to develop our bench a little bit and get some more guys that can come in and play.

On beating a ranked opponent:
Temple was based on a real good year last year with a lot of people back. They were ranked 20th. I don't know if that's where they are but it is now, so we've got to feel pretty good about it.

On coaching a young team:
I don't know what a rebuilding year is. All I know is we start two freshmen and come off the bench with a lot more, and I've never done that before. We're going to try and compete, and again, I thought we're showing some signs of toughness and that part is nice to see.
