BERKELEY - The following are quotes from the California vs. Wake Forest post-game press conference. Cal defeated Wake Forest, 3-2, in double overtime to advance to the Elite Eight.
Wake Forest Quotes
Coach Jay Vidovich
On the game:
"They did a good job, they managed the game. They did a great job of getting the first goal and then defending well; obviously Cal is a very good team, very organized. They did some clever things up front on their movement off the ball. I thought my team did a very good job defending that. I think Cal had several opportunities and we made them pretty predictable in terms of their opportunities."
On the Cal goal with 22 seconds left in regulation:
"With 20 seconds left, to see it go in like that is pretty hard."
On the momentum after the game-tying goal with 22 seconds left in regulation:
"I think we were just very upset. But I think the anger at the end was fine. We were able to focus. If you look at the way we played in overtime, we still created enough opportunities."
On having such a young team:
"Seven of our seniors are playing in the league, either in Europe or the MLS. To lose that type of class, we had more freshmen on the team than returnees. This is our second loss to a team outside the ACC. It's good to see them learn and grow."
On his goal in the 13th minute:
"Well our left back, Lyle Adams, stole the ball and put it right into the middle of the goal for me. He did all the work; I was just there."
On how Wake Forest played:
"Twenty more seconds of focus and we would get to the elite eight."
On the crowd of 4207:
"We weren't sure if there were going to be a lot of people because students are on break, but the crowd was pouring into the stadium before the game started. I think that at halftime when we came out of the locker room down a goal and the whole crowd immediately stood up and started cheering, it was a huge boost for us. Scoring those goals and feeling the rush and carrying us into overtime, the whole community has rallied around our team."
On his goal in overtime:
"At that point everybody is going up trying to go up and get the goal or a touch. It's every man for himself in the box."
