Getting to Know Pia Halbig

Senior Pia Halbig has made quite an impact on California Women's Golf in her four seasons. Halbig holds five school records: lowest freshman season scoring average (74.50), sophomore scoring average (73.00), lowest season scoring average (73.00), low 36 hole score (-9), and low 54-hole score (-13).

Halbig enters the spring season ranked No. 19 in the Golfweek individual rankings. She had a strong fall season where she opened up with six consecutive sub-par rounds and earned the first medalist honors of her career at the Mason Rudolph in Tennessee. She also took a brief break during Cal's season to go to Argentina to be a member of the German National Team competing at the World Amateur Team Championships.

What are your future goals? Going to Grad School to get my MBA

Of what sport teams are you a fan? Eintracht Frankfurt (German soccer team)

When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A doctor

Of what are you most proud? That I was able to go to University on a different continent, speaking a different language and that I managed it and in some parts succeeded.

Who is your favorite celebrity? Right now probably Martin Kaymer (German golfer)

What is your favorite article of clothing? Jeans of all kind

What sort of business would you like to start? Maybe Sports Marketing. Not really sure.

Where is your favorite place to relax? My bed, or a couch with a good book

Who have been your favorite professors at Cal? Professor Einhorn and Professor Retzinger

If you had a time machine, what year/era would you like to travel to? To the Egyptian Era just to see how they build all these amazing temples and how they really lived.

What is one thing about your hometown that you miss? My family!

What was the best moment from a road trip? Individually, it was my last putt in Tennessee when I realized that I won. With the team as a whole, definitely the moment we knew we won over USC at Washington.

What is the strongest part of your game? Probably my really solid iron game. Last season it was also my high shortgame percentage.

What is your favorite sport other than golf? Skiing

What is your favorite sports movie? Remember the Titans

What is your favorite non-sports movie? Way too many. Pretty Woman is definitely one of them.

What is your favorite recent movie? The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Hangover

What challenge do you find in golf that you do not find in any other sport? The challenge that your score really only depends on yourself. Nobody else has any real influence over it. Also how to focus, stay calm in the present for sometimes up to 11 hours a day.
