California Head Coach Ben Braun
I feel bad for our guys. Anderson was fouled, but they didn't call it. No way that should have happened. I wasn't concerned with the shot (by Josh Shipp), I was more concerned with the foul not being called. I'm disappointed that call was not made. You could have shot that shot 100 times and make one, but that's not the issue. The call should have been made.
I know out players deserve that. Our players should have won that game. Jerome Randle made great decisions. He attacked the defense all day today. I watched the replay again on channel 7 and both hands were around him (Anderson) and the ball was off of Shipp. Ryan deserved to be at the free throw line.
Jerome (Randle) did a great job running the team today. He controlled the tempo and gave us great energy.
UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland
I really have to commend Cal. They played great and took it to us for 39 minutes and about 58 seconds. They are obviously well coached and they play us well every year.
I was proud of our comeback especially for being down in both halves. The team had a great attitude and they never stopped believing they would win the game. This makes two games in a row where we stepped up in tough situations.
Those were two incredible shots to win the game. Kevin's 3 pointer was with a defender hanging on him. The steal to get the ball back was also huge. And then there was Josh's "horse" shot. It had incredible touch. It's probably something he shot in the back yard with his brothers. It was just unbelievable down the stretch.
It feels good to finish the season with a win like this. It was especially great for Lorenzo Mata-Real. He'll certainly never forget his last game at Pauley. I teared up when he walked out with his mother. He not only means a lot to this team, but also to me personally. He was part of my first recruiting class and is my first fourth year senior to graduate.
It's a brand new season on Thursday. When you are on top, you have to take everyone's best shot. These kind of games are good for us, because this is how all of the games from here on out will be. We are playing well, and at the end of the day, we will need to continue to finding ways to win.
