BERKELEY - Three members of the fourth-ranked California men's crew were named to the All-Pac-12 team, as announced by the conference on Thursday. The three Golden Bears selected to the all-conference squad were junior Cameron Klotz, sophomore Ivan Ostojic and senior Chris Yeager.
All three Bears have competed in every race this season on the varsity eight. Cal's top boat enjoyed victories over Stanford and Wisconsin, as well as a second-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships. With the Bears having a young team in 2012, the veteran leadership provided by Yeager was crucial for Cal's success this season.
Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution's finish in the varsity eight race at the Pac-12 Championships, which were held May 13 at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The conference champion provides four members of the All-Conference team, the Pac-12 second-place crew provides three members and the third-place finisher provides two. All other participating conference crews receive one selection each.
The Bears have this week off as they prepare for the IRA Championships from May 31-June 2 in Cherry Hill, N.J. Cal is sending five boats to the national championships - varsity eight, junior varsity eight, varsity four, open four, freshman four - and will be joined at the IRAs by top-ranked Washington and Stanford.
