BERKELEY - California sophomore defender Steve Birnbaum collected the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor of his career and senior forward Davis Paul garnered a spot on the Team of the Week on Tuesday, after their strong play contributed to a pair of 2-1 double overtime wins over Oregon State and Washington at Edwards Stadium.

An Irvine, Calif., product, Birnbaum scored his first career goal as a Golden Bear and assisted on Paul's game-winning score against the Beavers on Oct. 29. Paul, from Upland, Calif., assisted on Birnbaum's goal against OSU and set up senior midfielder Hector Jimenez's golden goal against the Huskies on Oct. 31.

This marks Cal's 19th Pac-10 Player of the Week awards, including five this season for the conference-leading Bears. Paul and senior defender A.J. Soares have each collected two Pac-10 accolades.

Cal (11-2-3, 7-1-1 in the Pac-10) brings a four-game unbeaten streak and three-game winning streak into the regular-season finale against rival Stanford (8-9-0, 4-5-0 Pac-10) in the Bay Area Derby on Nov. 11 on Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium. With a victory over the Cardinal, the Bears would capture the Pac-10 championship and accompanying automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
