The Washington Huskies completed the season-sweep of the California Golden Bears with a 60-49 victory Thursday night at Haas Pavilion. Sophomore guard Layshia Clarendon scored 13 points to lead the Bears.

The Washington Huskies started the game at a blistering pace, making six of their first seven shots. The Huskies extended a 10-4 lead by scoring 11 unanswered points to put the Bears down 21-4 with just under 12 minutes left in the half. After breaking the run with a DeNesha Stallworth free throw, Cal forced Washington turnovers on four straight possessions, to inject some energy to their side of the game, but managed to only add two points, those coming on a jumper by Layshia Clarendon, off those turnovers, to make it a 21-7 game.

After the Huskies extended the lead to 26-9, Cal again saw a spark with Eliza Pierre flashing a corkscrew move as she scored in the paint followed by Afure Jemerigbe driving through the lane for two. DeNesha Stallworth added a deep jumper from near the three point line, followed by another Jemerigbe drive to narrow the deficit to single digits, 26-17 with just under five minutes remaining. Jemerigbe added another free throw line jumper to make it 26-19 with two and a half to play. After starting the game barely missing a shot, Washington went ice cold in the second half of the first period, going a solid six minutes without scoring a basket while Cal rattled off a 10-0 run.

Cal entered the locker room at halftime down 31-19.

After the two teams traded buckets for the first seven minutes of the half, Washington put together six straight points to push their lead up to 45-29. Cal snapped the mini run with a jumper by Jemerigbe, her eighth points of the game, to make it 45-31 with just under 11 minutes left in the game.

The Bears cut the lead to ten, 51-41, on a three-pointer by Layshia Clarendon with 4:27 remaining in the game. Talia Caldwell converted four free throws to narrow the gap to 51-45 with 2:42 remaining. After a Clarendon free throw made it a five-point game, Washington's Sarah Morton drained a three-pointer with 1:48 remaining to put the Huskies back up 54-46 with 1:48 remaining. After Cal missed a pair of free throws, Washington made three straight on their end to put Cal back down double digits, 57-46 with just over a minute left in the game. A three-pointer by Mikayla Lyles with 49 seconds put the deficit back to single digits, 57-49, but that would be as close as Cal would come. The Huskies made their free throws down the stretch to earn the 60-49 victory.

Layshia Clarendon led the team with 13 points. DeNesha Stallworth scored 12 points with 6 rebounds. Alia Caldwell had seven points, five of which came from the free throw line, with 67 rebounds and a pair of steals.

With the win, Washington swept the season series with the Bears and improved to 10-11 (5-7 Pac-10). Cal fell to 14-9 and 6-6 in the Pac-10.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they host the Washington State Cougars. The game, which is the annual Pink Zone Game to promote breast cancer awareness, will tip at 7:30.
