BERKELEY - Cal head coach Jeff Tedford welcomes 93 student-athletes to the beginning of 2003 spring football practice at Memorial Stadium this Monday, March 17.
Thirty-nine letterman and 25 additional squad members return from last year's 7-5 club, which posted the first winning season at Cal in nine years and became the first team in school history to beat three nationally-ranked opponents (Michigan State, Washington and Arizona State) on the road in one season.
In addition, 25 redshirts and four 2003 recruits-JC transfers Matt Giordano (Fresno City College) and Joe Maningo (Foothill College), and graduated high school seniors Cary Dove (Taft HS) and Chris Purtz (Clovis West HS)-have enrolled at the University and will participate in spring drills.
The Golden Bears will stage 15 practice sessions this spring, including three Saturday scrimmages April 5, 12 and 19 (the Spring Game) which are open free to the public.
