Tucson - The fourth-ranked Arizona Wildcats overcame a deficit and winds close to 40 mph to come away with a 5-2 win over the visiting California Golden Bears on Sunday afternoon.
Cal (25-23, 2-7 Pac-10) returns to action Wednesday at Sacramento State, before resuming league play in Berkeley at Levine-Fricke Field versus Washington on April 20.
Just like Saturday's contest, Cal gained an early advantage over the Wildcats, this time putting a run on the board in the top of the fourth, courtesy of Christina Schallig's solo home run (her fourth of the season) off of Arizona starter Sarah Akamine.
But just like last night, the Wildcats erased the deficit to take the lead right back. Adrienne Acton's RBI single in the bottom half of the fourth squared the game at 1-1. Arizona took a 3-1 lead with two more runs in the inning.
The Bears cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth when Alex Sutton belted a solo home run (her tenth of the year) over the left field wall.
Arizona pushed its led to 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning after Jenae Leles connected for a single to center field which scored Jill Malina. The Wildcats would add one more run in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
Taryne Mowatt pitched a scoreless seventh with three strikeouts to earn her third save in the circle. Akamine earned the victory, while Cal's Brittany LaRosa suffered the loss to fall to 4-8 in the circle.
