BERKELEY - Junior running back Marshawn Lynch and senior defensive lineman Brandon Mebane have been selected as Lindy's Football Annual first-team All-Americans and the California football team has been tabbed No. 9 in the nation by the publication entering the 2006 season.
Senior defensive back Daymeion Hughes was selected to Lindy's All-America second team.
California has now cracked the preseason top 10 in four different rankings. ESPN.com rated the Golden Bears as No. 7 in the nation in its post-spring rankings, while Athlon Sports places Cal at No. 8 and Sports Illustrated's SI.com slotted the Bears No. 8 in its post-spring rankings.

Mebane has now been named a preseason All-American by three publications with The Sporting News and Athlon also placing the Los Angeles senior on their first-team All-America lists. Lynch was also named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News, while Athlon rated him as a second-team selection. Hughes was selected as a first-team All-American by Playboy magazine.

Mebane battled double teams throughout 2005 to earn first-team All-Pac-10 honors. Hughes was also a first-team all-league pick after recording 17 passes defended, including five interceptions. Lynch, meanwhile, rushed for 1,246 yards in less than 10 full games (due to injury) for the Bears, helping the team to its third straight bowl game.
California is coming off an 8-4 season that included a win in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl. The Bears ended the 2005 season ranked No. 25 in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls. Cal opens the 2006 season on the road, playing at Tennessee on Sept. 2. The home opener for the Golden Bears is Sept. 9 against Minnesota.
