Helvie Places Fourth on Platform at Pac-10s

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - California freshman Sam Helvie took fourth place in the platform final on the last day of the Pac-10 Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatics Center. Helvie scored 271.35 points in the final, and sophomore teammate Javier Rivas scored 239.05 points to take seventh place in the platform final. USC's Michael Hilde won the event with a score of 347.20.

In the platform preliminaries earlier in the afternoon, Helvie scored 234.35 to finish sixth and Rivas was seventh with 230.15. Cal sophomore Mark Wes, diving in an exhibition, scored 175.10.

Arizona State senior Joona Puhakka, who won the one- and three-meter springboard competitions at Pac-10s but did not compete on the platform, was named the Pac-10 Diver of the Meet.

The Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships will take place March 1-4 in Federal Way.
